- Go to Always confident of being right Emma is always embarrassingly wrong
As always the characters are believable. If one can assume that Emma thinks she is the perfect matchmaker. Of course it is a really difficult to assess what folk really feel. Good write.

I watched the most recent movie version of EMMA recently, and will probably read the book again, too. The theme of self-indulgence going uncorrected by her doting but distracted papa leads to her self-ignorance and a kind of petty pride in what she imagines to be her cleverness. That leads her into a kind of mean-spiritedness which is what finally trips her up and leads to her awakening to the value of kindness over cleverness.

Sometimes one enjoys reading a lite hearted romance. I love Jane Austen.
