Good morning
I am guilty of being a bit of a tree hugger myself. A 13,000-year-old tree isn't something one should destroy for reasons of development. They make Lifetime movies from these horror stories. I am currently reading a novel titled Driftwood Point, the Chesapeake Diaries that covers similar issues of developers building on land that will devastate the ecosystem. Some things really do need to be left alone. Extreme overpopulation is forcing housing shortages and the need to build quickly and wherever there is open space to do it.

Sea Sis,
Gosh! 13000 years. Such trees, we in India, venerate, and after applying vermilion which you see women apply on their foreheads as a sign of being married. Similarly, the tree is worshipped and the place is sanctified. The tree therefore attains the status of a goddess. Naturally, their protection is guaranteed by the society. It is a culture of which we are proud.

Re: Re: Re: Good Morning
Sea Gypsy, I'm sure this tree is on sacred land and to disturb it could be a disaster.

Re: Re: Good Morning
Sea Gypsy, the more I think about this tree the more I'm sure it's here for a reason. I think they should respect this tree. This tree knows things that we have no way to know. It has seen many things throughout its time on Earth.

Re: Good Morning
We had a similar tree maybe not so old but some vandals cut it down I think they are waiting trial. There is a certain magic to contend with when something so old belongs to this Earth. 🌺

Re: Re: Good Morning
And - I read that one Indigenous tribe had said the tree sits on their sacred land. Another tribe claims the same thing. Either way, if so it is best to respect that. I have seen what can happen when sacred land is disturbed.

Re: Good Morning
Goldie, what beautiful thoughts. It is 90 feet wide, the trunk. Our indigenous peoples say it has been with them along their waters for thousands of years. I hope it is left alone to continue its living journey. Maybe its purpose is to teach us how to appreciate all living things.

Good Morning
Sea Gypsy, I love trees and the only way I would think this was okay was if the tree was lonely but somehow I don't think that's the case. This tree has done just fine for all these years. It sounds like this could be a mystical/magical tree and it's here for a special earthly mission. In that case, they should give this particular tree lots of space.
