Comments on Nature and Concept of Hell in Milton’s Paradise Lost

Milton lived in a time when preachers kept their Churches full with fear. Hell and damnation was preached from the pulpit. I appreciate Milton's work...who couldn't, who wouldn't! However, apart form the glorious presentation I have never taken it onboard. As a Christian woman, I know the new testament. The love of God who sent us his Son who died for our sins and set us free. Oh yes, we should want to follow the teachings of Jesus and stop creating a new hell on earth. I Know only a loving God would give his "experiment' free will, and am grateful for it, but it certainly brings upheaval and evil deeds with it.

This concept is reminiscent of current events. We are living as close to Hell as we possibly can. A shift in people's behavior could easily steer us in a better direction.

Quite a grim forecast, I don't think this life would be worth living if this was all one had to look forward to. Perhaps at the time it all seemed plausible. I suppose we have a job to imagine time that stretched before our imagination.  Enjoyed the read.
