Sometimes when I am loading my drier from my washing machine i think back to when I was little and all mother had was a tub to wash in and a walk around the yard line to hang the clothes on.

I love Old West stories such as this. I suspect that Lucy was a tough woman in all the ways that counted during a time when it was necessary. I imagine freezing cold winters and brutally hot summers where she did what was needed to sustain herself and her children through the elements. I can see her stirring a kettle of soup or beans over an open fire. ðŸ¤

Perhaps your ancestors were more sophisticated. Of course they had plenty of room.
I suspect that the villagers here made use of the waste in their own land to enrich the soil.🌺
