According to NOAA, 30% of the time he is right. He looks in the face like a cross between a squirrel and big, friendly rodent to me.

None of the resident groundhogs have shown themselves lately while I was at the window, but I'm pretty sure they've been around all winter - thank heavens the snow is now melted.
