I brought up my boys and am proud of them
I would like to live closer or see more of them. Still I made decisions and will stick by them.

Mental illness appears to be at the root of why children are abused by a parent. My husband and I lived through it as children. John escaped his crazy house by signing up for the Navy, and I got emancipated when I was sixteen. We raised our three daughters in a safe and loving environment. Breaking the cycle is key. As for Lisa being a furbaby mom, that is an important role too. We have a woodland creature habitat, and I am a furbaby and feather creature mom to many. 🦝 🐦

My mom was also abusive and scary. She had a lot on her plate, much of which I didn't learn until years after I had escaped. I'm happy to read that you got out in time and that you've become a thinking, caring grownup for your own family. Nice to read about a win.
