That's one of the reasons I am moving from a 'straight to Amazon' approach to PublishDrive, which charges you something like $28 a month for roughly 95% of your list price. You don't need an agent, but it is better when you have several stories out when you begin there. 

I've been writing as many short (12,000 to 35,000 word) romance stories as I can so I can hit the ground running with at least ten stories. With my last publisher suddenly closing down due to the head guy having a ton of legal problems, I was given back the 'rights' to "I Remember Judy" and "Dealing With Grief." 

The more titles you have listed under your name, the more likely you are to sell one.

I have found that Kindle sets the book prices too high, and the writer barely gets any profits unless they severely overcharge. Getting a publishing deal is the dream result, but it is not easy to achieve. NotepadGirl hug
