Actually I grew up in the restaurant industry. I worked many years as a server having to share tips.

Wow, you really have a lot of energy good for you. It takes a lot to volunteer. I can tell you enjoy. It. As far as tipping. Those who have had jobs where they live off tips tend to tip higher. Many times, the employees must share the tips. You would be surprised how little they make per hour.

That will never happen, The restaurant industry has too much power to do so. There was a restaurant chain that did that and they went under.

I might have been able to do half of what you do when I was 50, but now? No way! And you're right about tipping - I always tip 15-20% and my son, who's never worked as a server, thinks anything over 10% is way too much. But the other comment here had a good point - the pay for any service job should be a living wage.

I will never get used to the tipping system in this country. I like it when the meal will cost more but I know the server is earning and being paid a proper wage.
