"What would you do for a Klondike Bar?"

Watching EVIL on Netflix. Interesting... It's the metaphor of the perpetual battle of Good vs Evil through the filters of the Catholic Church vs the Demonic Heirarchy. That isn't the point of it though, that's just the vehicle for the stories and the lessons it is offering. The point is that we make choices, that our choices begin with how we choose the influences that help us make our decisions; that there are things essentially wholesome, and things essentially inimical to life and happiness,... The Feminine Myth, Feminine Reality

In honor of the mythic Woman who stands behind every real Woman... MEDUSA O maid, you once were lovely, full of grace, and named for Wisdom in eternal female form-- Metis, Maat, Medha the names you bore... But the passing generations, reshaping and restructuring your form, made you over as a thing to fear, no longer Maid, but monstrous with a deadly, stony gaze; Men made you cruel and cold and perilous to life in latter days, forgetting that the peril in your eyes is Truth too true for them to... Because communication is all about connection of mind to mind:

This is about a philosophy of language, about communication, about the annoying changes in usages when spoken language becomes written--such as, on social media. Yes, the English language lives, it grows and it changes. New words come into use steadily. But the language also decays and degrades over time. Ignorance and laziness are the entropic forces, just as insects and bacteria and elephants decay and degrade a forest. Management of those forces is the difference between a jungle and a... Can there be morality in the rejection of religion?

This question is being warmly if not hotly debated over on Facebook today. The question arose and the first comment declares with great certainty, No! There is a big difference between morality and righteousness. Both are personal and subjective, and based in one's own notions of how energies flow through the universe, and what one believes about personal responsibility. In my opinion, based on over six decades of very interested observation, the Righteous tend to be smug and judgemental, and,... Sign in to see full entry.

Science vs Faith is not a thing.

My dad once said, "I don't need faith, I've got knowledge!" I think it was a response to my asking him to have a little faith in me. It was, however, his scientist-mindset all around. Scientists seek knowledge, or as close as they can get to something they can claim as 'knowing.' At the same time, true scientists know they never know enough to say more than, "It looks like this is true with the information we have and the tests we can make." Real science is always ready to accept its own... Sign in to see full entry.

Earth Stewardship is growing in the world.

I am in awe of the work that Jane Goodall has done through her lifetime with chimpanzees. I share sometimes the postings of various primate support organizations who provide care and rescue for orangutans and gorillas both in shelters... Sign in to see full entry.

Thinking 'And' instead of 'Either/Or'

The very act of city-building is to remove a culture's contact with the natural world. Humans wanted to be safer from the elements, more in control of their comfort and food-security. The bigger our cities got, the greater the remove, the greater the tendency take for granted all that comes to us only through nature. It's 'civilized' human nature to see nature as a foe instead of as a partner and companion. It's been said and is believed by many that our purpose in living lives, of experiencing... It's about the Love.

Am I a Christian? Well, no. Not as that is understood in the modern world... or since the times when Church became the main thing, and the teachings of Jesus were toned down or sideways by people who, however sincere, had their own favorite bits and agendas. Every translation of scripture, every interpretation by the Wise and Devout has taken the essentials of Christ's message further and further from the original source. Christianity became temporal and political; it became philosophical more... Sign in to see full entry.

Grandmother Spider

Since yesterday's post, I have done some further research, and discover that the term 'medicine wheel' was generalized from the one found in Wyoming by European explorers, who called that first one by that name. A more proper name for them is Sacred Circles. All of this got me thinking and remembering... I posted about this a long time back... The post is called VISIONS AND VISITS: GRANDMOTHER SPIDER. You can find it by clicking on 'search' on the black bar above, and typing in grandmother... Sign in to see full entry.

The Medicine Wheel

I came across an image today, over on facebook, that gave my heart a strange and wonderful jolt. It was of a medicine wheel in the Bighorn Mountains of Wyoming. I rarely feel such a reaction, but this was unmistakable and meaningful. It was 34 years ago almost exactly, that a friend living in Calgary told me of a medicine wheel she and her partner had found quite by accident a few years before. They checked with the Canadia authorities that take an interest of such things and it was acknowledged... Sign in to see full entry.
