The Sabbath - Jewish Style

What is the most important Jewish holiday? Most people would answer, Yom Kippur or Passover. While both are up there in the Jewish celebration hit parade, the most sacred day for Jews actually occurs 52 times per year. It is the Sabbath, the period from sundown on Friday night until after dark on Saturday night when we honor the seventh day of creation; the day that G-d rested. Jews who observe the commandment expressed in Exodus 20:8 – 10 – “Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy,” are... Sign in to see full entry.

The Israeli Antiquities Authority, http://www.antiquities.org.il/, responsible for conserving the fragile parchment and papyrus scrolls and fragments, completed a test using sophisticated cameras to enhance images of some of the scrolls. Hopefully, within five years, the full project will be completed and will include... Sign in to see full entry.

Inscriptions on Liberty Bell and Statue of Liberty

The verse describing the "Jubilee Year" - the 50th year after a compete cycle of seven sabbatical years when each slave was set free - from Leviticus 25:10; "Proclaim liberty throughout the land unto all the inhabitants thereof" was originally inscribed on the Liberty Bell to celebrate the colony of Pennsylvania's 50th (jubilee) year in 1751. It was later interpreted as referring to the political liberty of the United States. The words, "Give me your hungry, your poor, your huddled masses... Sign in to see full entry.
