Where's my wake-up call?

Today's one of those days when I feel at least a little sleepy. I also feel somewhat depressed. What worries me is that I am going back to a pattern in which I am being sneaky and secretive just for the fun of it. This bothers me, because I've been spending time trying to lead a more ethical, honest life. Now, I don't mean that I'm going to write about every single detail of my life in here; however, what I'm talking about is that I'm starting to get a big kick out of hiding things I shouldn't... Discerning the difference

I wanted to clarify a remark I made in yesterday's entry in this blog. To my regret, I did not make myself crystal-clear yesterday. Toward the end of my last entry, I tried, unsuccessfully, to differentiate between genuine child pornography and certain types of pictures which are either necessary or at least non-pornographic. There are two examples of the latter. First of all, I don't know how familiar you are with the work of Anne Geddes, but if you aren't, I'll bring you up to speed. She... Sign in to see full entry.

Well, DUH!

This is yet another post inspired by an Oprah Winfrey show. I like the shows she does about child molestation, although I do not agree with her general philosophy of life. (The remarks I heard her make recently, where she was quoted as talking about consulting her Higher Self and relying on her intuition, are the subject of another entry.) Today's show (aired on 9/28/2006) was about child molestation, so, of course, I watched today's episode. One thing stood out for me as I watched the show.... Sign in to see full entry.

Good morning, Sleepyhead

This is not one of my better mornings. I'd be grateful for the first frost - weather geeks are forecasting that it will occur overnight (9/28 to 9/29/2006), except for the fact that I have a great deal of mold and dust kicking around the house, and my sinuses feel miserable. Frankly, I don't want another repeat of last winter. I hope I'm able to do more next winter. I don't know if I could tolerate the boredom involved in another hospitalization, not to mention the loss of control involved - you... Sign in to see full entry.

Dental woes update

The little girl who went comatose after routine dental work (and the administration of three separate sedatives) has died, unfortunately. The dentist who was filling this young girl's cavities when she went unconscious is having his files searched by some agency or other - I didn't catch which one. The office staff has also had to call police because they have apparently received some threats. It also seems as if patients are suddenly having difficulty seeing this dentist, too. One gentleman was... Sign in to see full entry.

If I have to satisfy one more bureaucrat...

Right now, I'm in the process of helping my daughter file paperwork for food stamps. It's so frustrating I think I could scream. It isn't about her getting food stamps or any other form of assistance right now. I'm in favor of people getting anything for which they legitimately qualify, and besides, right now, I need her at home in the event of another February-like episode (that's when I suddenly came down with bacterial meningitis). There are just other factors which enter into what I call my... Sign in to see full entry.

A month of Sundays

I got the inspiration for the title from - believe it or not - watching a taped daily Mass from EWTN, where I thought I saw someone I hadn't seen on TV in the proverbial month of Sundays. It actually has nothing whatever to do with what I wanted to talk about. I'm not sure whether I mentioned this or Garfield did, but when I went to the doctor the other day, my numbers came back very much higher than even my norm. I'm beginning to suspect that my internist was right - that perhaps the transplant... Sign in to see full entry.

Dental woes

By now, many readers have heard of the case of a little girl who (as of this writing) lies comatose at Children's Memorial in Chicago. The only thing wrong with her is that her mother took her to the dentist for routine dental work - having a cavity filled and a few lower teeth capped. This little girl had complained of nothing more serious than a toothache, and now she's comatose and on life support. She had been given three separate sedatives to calm her down and prepare her to have her dental... Sign in to see full entry.

Never look a gift Vulcan in the ears, Jim

Star Trek fans will recognize the title; it's a direct "lift" from the script of The Wrath of Khan. McCoy says something similar to Kirk as he hands Kirk a bottle of that highly-illegal brew, Romulan ale. (Throughout the film, Kirk deals with the fact that he is an aging man. McCoy is worried about Kirk's seeming obsession with the aging process.) I thought of the title because I was in a quandary about how to get some attention to this blog again, after taking what amounted to a one-and-a-half... Sign in to see full entry.

Areas of vulnerability

Not too long ago, I was doing a bit of judicious websurfing, and came across a website purporting to represent the views of someone who served as a former disciple of my former boyfriend. I have chosen not to link to this website because I have my doubts as to the authenticity of the identity of this disciple. One must remember how easy it is to feign an alternate identity on the Internet; police do it all the time in order to catch pedophiles "in the act." I have no way of knowing whether this...
