How Can One Not Believe in the Resurrection?

With Easter just over a week away, there is quite a debate going on between liberal and conservative theologians about the resurrection of Christ. Some liberals claim that the resurrection is metaphor for what one has to go through (the death of the Ego) in order to become one with God. John Shelby Spong, a respected liberal theologian, has actually stated that the resurrection couldn’t have possibly happened because it is physically impossible.
