What if Salvation is Saving One's Self from Self?

Salvation - being saved from our sins. This is the traditional Christian meaning of salvation. Well, what if salvation is not about being saved from our sins. What if salvation is all about being saved from one’s self, i.e. Ego? If one believes that Ego is the biggest challenge faced by those wanting to get closer to “God”, then the idea that salvation is being saved from one’s Self makes sense.
