Re: Trilliums!

Sam,

I realized that I had forgotten to list trilliums in my list of beautiful, delicate spring flowers, while driving past some, today. Strange coincidence that you mentioned them. Some trilliums take on a pinkish, lavender tinge according to the alkalinity of the soil. They are all stunning! From newly fallen snow-white to pink/purple blend edges, trilliums are hard to beat, in their simple, fragile elegance. Have you seen the crepe-paperlike petals and colored centers of the trumpet shaped azalias or delphiniums? (I forget which name belongs to these lovely flowers) Maybe, hydrangeas? I think that they are hydrangeas! I tried to take one home to show Marilyn, but it wilted almost immediately after I put it in water.

Do you also smile when a small child says that they picked a bunch of flowers just for you, then they drop a handful of flower heads in your hand? Kids know where the beauty resides, and why would anybody bother bringing in the stems, too? Child logic! Priceless!

It made me think of trilliums and how much I missed hunting mushrooms in the Boyne City area!  sam

North
You sure make spring sound magical in your part of the world.  Albeit there is some truth to your observations that spring in the country pales by comparison to spring's emergence in an urban setting, still there are some cities (I live in one) that take great pride in adorning boulevards with magnificent tulips, hanging flower baskets from the street lights, and cherry trees line the streets. From my window I have witnessed the return of an Eagle to her resting place atop a Douglas Fir and my patio and adjoining rock garden is flourishing with signs of spring.  Great write and an excellent read, Guy!
