Sounds like fun! I have  never done any white-water kayaking or even rafting - I prefer sailing. But I take it there is some of that being done on the Ottawa river, and it's not all that far, although I think I'd better wait until next spring. I don't mind being cold, and I don't mind being wet, but wet and cold I will tolerate only on a sailboat...

I've never ever done a thing like that. Sounds exciting although, on second thought, I think I'll stick to the yacht, sipping my drink and letting soneone else do the sailing. However, a  for your bravery.

Near perfect description of river rafting. I was waiting to read about the fashionable must-wear helmets........oh, so sexy. What a trooper you were (and still are, I bet). I've been rafting (W.Virginia) w/ the husb. and kids. The kids absolutely loved it. I was glad to have had the "experience" but would probably never opt to do it on a regular basis. Nice read, Mal.

I might enjoy kayacking more in still waters...

Once met a guy who was building his own fiberglass ocean-going kayak, planning to go from Vancouver to Hawaii.  It had a system for closing a dome over the hole, sealed against the water with bike inner-tubes.  Seems to me it had two of those.

Never heard if he ever made the trip--or ever launched.

Loved the post, Gap.  It is amazing how many things you stop doing after you reach 70, but how much you enjoy remembering.
