Got out!

I've had my photo cards and prints on display in a vendor-mall sort of place for the past year. The rent was cheap, the space was clean and at first, busy. The owners were and are totally amateur, but had big ideas and good intentions for the most part. But when the one brother--the quiet anxious one-- sold out to the other--the manic, Let's-Change-It-Up one--things began to slide off in a direction that was less and less the one I needed to go in. Davy Meets The River

We went for our first public walk together today, strolling down to the park where the river runs through, and there are woodsy, sandy trails. It was Davy's walk, not about learning the manners of heeling and suchlike, which he was not nearly as interested in as he was sniffing every dog-scent that has been down those paths since spring! I dreamed of lava...

The Scottish Play

Ask any theatrical pro: it is the worst invitation to Bad Luck to mention the name of Macbeth in a theater. Except, presumeably, during a performance of Shakespeare's play. So it is commonly referred to in a theater, as The Scottish Play. In fact, Vanessa Redgrave made that reference in a recent awards show. I just thought I would mention that. I watched a production of Macbeth today, not Shakespeare's, but the opera by Verdi. It was on public television, a new production from the Metropolitan... Sign in to see full entry.

Nonplussed...

Welcome to the Ciel Show. Formerly The Roving Eye blog, in 'art and photography' this is now acknowledged for the direction it was heading, and has become officially a 'journal' blog. I'd like to say it is like having friends over for tea... but as I will probably do most of the talking, and some will wander into this salon and never even say hello, it is probably more like a small stage in a minor hall. ...and no bird sang...

The height of summer is so quiet here. There is a calm all day as the sun shines down, drying the grass to brown and parching the potted plants on the patio. The land bakes in direct light, and the shade is cooler, but just as dry. Contrary to popular delusion, it does not rain all the time in the Northwest. It rains all winter, and often well into spring. Sometimes the rains begin in earnest as early as Labor Day. In 30 years out here, I have seen them come that early, and I've seen them hold... New Movie1 This Ghengis Khan ain't Tony Curtis!

We went to see MONGOL last night. It's a foreign film made on location in Mongolia and Khazakstan, with Mongolian, Chinese, Japanese and other Asian film-makers. To begin with, the cinemetography is spectacular, and does justice to the vast landscapes and skies. The battle scenes are grimly artistic, and the entire production is so visually and culturally authentic, it is a pure pleasure. The actors are real, too. Now, whose fault is this?

Seems our Davy dog, pup that he is, chewed apart the strap of the sitter's backpack. The sitter, a 23-yr old young man, is not too happy about that... but is it his own fault for both leaving the pack where the pup could get to it, and for not noticing that it was happening? Takes a while to chew through a strap... I am suddenly reminded of a T-shirt my son had for a while that said on it: Some days its just not worth chewing through the leather straps in the morning. Called the dog sitter today...

He has been dealing with Davy since Friday morning, and sounds like he is hanging in there, though Davy is clearly being a brat and driving him a bit nuts! I tried to give him encouragement to play the pup harder (Davy loves to wrestle snarlingly with this big rope rat--especially when someone is hanging onto the other end of it, keeping it lively.) And to feel okay about time outs as required. This pup needs to get his exercise, but he also needs to learn that nipping and pouncing playfully is... Sign in to see full entry.
