Walking with words

I went for a short drive this afternoon, out of Burwell and beyond the neighbouring village of Reach. I then took a road that ultimately leads to Upware. This is a road that was built by prisoners of war during WW2 and is basic to say the least. It was obviously thrown up quite quickly as a link... Sign in to see full entry.

Relaxing in the sunshine

We had a very relaxing day today, after a particulaalry tiring week. Thanks to all of you who came by and commented on my headache from yesterday. I'm pleased to say that it passed and today I woke up to the sounds of birds singing and sunshine pouring through the window. We went up in to Norfolk to... Sign in to see full entry.

Banging Headache

I woke up this morning with one of those pains in your temple that you know will just grow and grow. A bit like a Pharisee I suppose. I don't knwo what brought it on. Our bedroom is well-ventilated and I only had the one glass of wine last night. Susan and I watched an episode of Wire in the Blood... Sign in to see full entry.

e-Mail

Whenever I work from home, as I did today, I decide at the start of the day that I'm going to check my e-mail first thing and then last thing and get on with whatever meaty project I'm supposed to be getting on with - and there are always plenty of those. Of course, I fail. I failed today and will... Sign in to see full entry.

Middle England

I had to travel by train to a place called Great Missenden today. It is in the Chiltern Hills between Amersham and Aylesbury so involved a journey to King's Cross, along to Marylebone and then out of London again. I used to work in Park Road, near to Baker Street, and often walked past Marylebone... Sign in to see full entry.

Reading and Writing

I've spent the day with the newspapers, the radio, the coffee pot and the computer. we've all had a pretty good time together and it's been a relaxing day inside while rain has poured down beyond my inner sanctuary. The Sunday Times had some great articles in it today and Radio 2 programmes from... Sign in to see full entry.

Going home to Leeds United

Ivan, Christian and I travelled by train from Cambridge to Peterborough today to watcha football match. The two cities are deadly local rivals but the game we went to see was Peterborough United versus Leeds United. I've written about it in my Soccer Special blog. It felt strange to go back to my... Josh is recovering; am I?

For all the kind people who left messages of support on my last post, I'm pleased to announce that Josh is recovering well. Susan took him back to the vet this morning and, though the wound is still a bit weepy and he is a bit sleepy, he is recovering. I had a six-monthly appraisal with my boss this... Sick cat

I took the day off today because Josh, one of our four cats, is poorly. Claire lifted him downstairs for his breakfast yesterday - he was much too to walk - and he seemed to wince. When she and Susan examined him, he has a major gash in his chest. We're not sure if it's a burst abscess or whether he... Sign in to see full entry.

Headphones

I had a disturbed sleep last night. I think it was partly because I had a long lie-in on Sunday morning and so wasn't really tired. Then the worry kicked in of 'I've only got three hours to go before I have to get up and if I don't go to sleep quickly I'll be really tired...' Obviously this just... Sign in to see full entry.
