In view of the battle that’s been raging over there, it is with some trepidation that I post my first short reading and Distribution List. The format’s a little different from normal, and what I’ve been reading is on the left, and how it is distributed on the right. Okay, here we go … The Best Of Jewish Humour …………………..copy to every Muslim. By Rabbi Wildli Giglin. A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Mosque copy to every Jew. By Imam Keepum Larfin. Basic Ice Sculpture …………………….copy to every... Sign in to see full entry.

As the two great world wars were the most significant events in the history of my parent’s, and my generation, they merit exploration at some length. This is not only to set our lives into the proper social context, but for the benefit of those who have no great knowledge of 20 th century history. After the declaration of war had been sent to Germany, Lord Grey, the British Foreign Secretary, in what was clearly an instinctive grasp of its implications, spoke some highly prophetic words.... The stories of people’s lives do not have much impact or interest when divorced from the families and the societies in which they were lived, so I give some idea of the harsh conditions in which my parents, aunts and uncles – and even more my grandparents and great-grandparents had to endure. What never ceases to amaze any who make a study of that era is the sheer exuberance, and joie d vivre of the poorest of the poor in those times; the human spirit is indeed irrepressible! Of course, we... Sign in to see full entry.
I can only give you very approximate values in American currency, but as a crude yardstick, one can state that during the period covered by these posts, there were 3 to 4 $s to the £ sterling. In fact a slang term for 5/ ( five shillings ) was a “ dollar”. Or if one preferred it, the rhyming slang version: “ Oxford scholar ”. British currency was referred to as l s d, from the Latin librum, solidus, denarius, the £ sign being used more commonly than the l. Here is a list of British coins, in... Sign in to see full entry.
As I wrote in the first of these pieces, I’m very vague about actual dates in my family history; it’s my clever sister, Theresa, who’s clued up about this sort of thing, but unfortunately she’s in Canada at the moment, visiting her daughter and family. Well, I suppose I could email, phone her, send a carrier pigeon, or a smoke signal, but accuracy schmaccuracy, who cares about actual dates? You do? Well, I’m afraid you’re in the wrong blog. LOL. Okay, so here’s what I’m going to do: I’m going to... Sign in to see full entry.
By huge popular demand ( er … well, I think it was FLIGHTPATH, a while back, and Bel_1965 who expressed an interest in my doing so) I’m going to post a few pieces about my life as a boy. See, this was about two years after the last T Rex had popped its scaly clogs, and I think that it might interest a few people. If only to let you young pups out there know how lucky you are! LOL. It’s surprising ( and, I must admit, a bit embarrassing ) that for one with such a deep love of, and interest in,... Sign in to see full entry.
I made a small mistake in the first part of this series of posts by stating that the ways in which child sexual abusers have forced us to modify our thought patterns, and our social behaviour was to be dealt with in part 2.; In fact, it is covered in a later part. My apologies for leading you astray. Irrational, and often baseless “ We are all guilty! ” diatribes are fashionable among the chattering classes, and their spokesmen and women in the media who reflect their views. Some of these are so... Sign in to see full entry.
I’m not feeling too good today; all day I’ve had the grinding pain and pounding arteries of an angina attack, but the numerous tests that I’ve had show that my heart’s okay. Most mysterious. I’m off to bed right now; see if I’m better tomorrow. Please forgive me if it seems to you this piece lacks a certain … well, I don’t know. In my last post on the subject of so-called paedophiles, I stressed the importance or words – or propaganda, if you like – in our fight to protect our children from... Sign in to see full entry.
We’ve had a busy day today, and we had to attend yet another party, given by a Dutch/Welsh couple; friends of about three years. ( Just got back from home at 11.pm. See, here in Spain, the law say that one has to attend lots of fiestas, ferias, parties and other entertainments. One can be jailed for staying at home brooding, when one could be out relishing the gorgeous chicas, the sunshine, the food, and the wine. The subject of child sexual abuse continues in tomorrow’s post, and meanwhile I... Sign in to see full entry.
Yesterday I read Passionflower’s very good – and passionate – post ( http://www.blogit.com/Blogs/Blog.aspx/Ren31812/ ) on the subject of child sexual abuse, and how we should treat those who commit this, the most grievous and unforgivable of all crimes. I was enormously gratified to see the great number of comments, expressing varying opinions, that her post evoked – and so richly deserved. Passionflower has clearly touched upon an issue close to the hearts of everyone in here, and she is to be... Sign in to see full entry.
You know, folks, this really is a poxy window! It does the most irritating and stupid things to my text; especially poetry. I mean, what the hell are all these double spaces for, eh? Anyway, I hope you like the content. YOU ARE OLD GRANDPA ARIEL “ You are old, Grandpa Ariel!” his ( cheeky )young grandson said. “ Why is there no hair on your head! “Why does your face look like a prune? Does it mean that you’ll die real soon?” ( Boys. Got no respect these days. ) Ariel gave an affectionate pat to... Sign in to see full entry.
So thank you all for your interesting comments. Including yours, Glennb Sign in to see full entry.
It is too tiresome to attempt a rebuttal of your grotesque opinions by comments, Glennb, so I intend to deal with them in a separate post. I shall of course inform you when I intend to post it. A ubiquitous theme in your posts is an unreasoning hatred of colonialism; as if it were an umitigated evil, from which no possible benefits might derive. Colonising other peoples’ lands is indeed repugnant; but the cardinal sin of the bad historian – or one with little or no knowledge of history – is to... Sign in to see full entry.
I have always thought that Blogit is dilatory about enforcing its conduct policy, and yet in one regard I approve of this, for I am vehemently opposed to the curtailment of free speech. It is anyone’s right to post anything in here, however misguided and mischievous; fatuous or foul it may be. ( And one does see some pretty foul stuff in here!) It’s also anyone else’s right to challenge those opinions. As a result of my first reading one of Glennb’s posts, an exchange of comments between us, and... Sign in to see full entry.

The aspiring author is constantly exhorted by those who purport to know best “ Show, don’t tell. ” Which is to say, for example, “Don’t say that X hates cats, but show him kicking one, when he goes out of the front door ” then the reader then gets the message. Yeah, well, that’s a good point: up to a point. I guess it seems like a sound rule, doesn’t it? Well, no, actually, when one starts to think about it, it doesn’t. It isn’t always and everywhere a sound rule for the simple reason that it... Sign in to see full entry.
The emails between Blogit and me still wing thro' the ehter, but I haven't solved my problem: I cant go " Back" from this window. My Back button,( like most of my other equipment LOL) works fine, and I can go forwards and back on any other web page. But Blogit? Nein. Niet. No. Non. If I want to go back and see if anyone else has left a comment, I've got to log off, and log back on. So please don't think that I'm an ignorant schweinhund if I don't reply to your comments Sign in to see full entry.
Eleven o’clock, and we haven’t been home long, ‘cos we went to a very rowdy, very amusing lunch party with some old friends; people who came here at about the same time that we did. That’s almost six years ago. Much vino and food consumed, many jokes ( of varying funniness and crudity. These old ‘uns! )We arrived at the house at two o’clock, and left at eight thirty. That’s about typical for Spain, and now dear readers, Ariel’s kinda tired! Hope you like this … DOWN THERE ON THE COSTAS. Not for... Sign in to see full entry.
THAT NIGHT ON THE BEACH Brazen sea under a melon moon, burnished bright as Saladin's helm: caught between horns of wooded land; sharp as as Caliph Mahmud's scimitar. There on the beach, cupped in a bowl of sand, ringed about with spikened grass we lay, my love and I: in the deepest womb of night, in the glowing lambent light; that night, on the beach. Beneath the blanket on which we lay, that night, upon the beach lay day- warm sand. Soft round grains of lover's whispers, lover's sighs: gay,... Sign in to see full entry.
