Doing Your Civic Duty
I started my week of jury duty today, but I have not yet been fortunate enough to be called out of the pool room and into the courtroom. Yet. But I have some things to say about what I've seen and heard so far. First of all, compensation. We get $11 a day. That's not even minimum wage, y'all. And we...

Want to Be a Successful Blogger?
There is only one secret. I figured it out this morning after thinking about the kinds of people who are doing well...not necessarily in the Top Ten, although they do it....but those who are routinely making enough each month to pay for their membership and who have cultivated a loyal readership....

Thinking About Terri Schiavo
This case really disturbs me. Apart from the implications of withholding food and water from someone who is physically unable to feed herself----though her other vital body functions (circulation and respiration) are functioning independently-----I am horrified that a husband would wish to rid...

Media Bashes Homeschoolers --- What Happened to Objectivity in Reporting?
I don't watch much television, so I am a little behind on this story. But I find this news so infuriating that it demands comment, even if I am two weeks behind the times. Apparently, the news media is once again using the failures and poor behaviour of a tiny segment of the homeschooling community...

Mixed Marriages Are a Bad Idea
I see it all the time. I've even been there. Two kids, so totally in love that "nothing will come between us." I'm sorry to say, it's not true. When the love-fires die down to embers and the nitty-gritty of daily life kicks in---and especially when children come along---the differences can become...

Illegals Have No Rights
There are debates all over our country right now about granting various privileges, such as driver's licenses or non-emergency medical care, to illegal aliens. The protests over the unfair treatment of the "undocumented" workers rounded up in Operation Rollback in October 2003 are also illustrative...

Is Sex Evil and Corrupting?
Someone on BN, in a comment on another blog, mentioned that they believed sex to be created by "dark forces" for the purpose of destroying a fallen race and creating more corrupt bodies. I disagree. Sex was created by God for the purpose of bringing two people together into the most beautiful...

Just Because...My Top Ten BN Bloggers.
I don't usually do this, because I'm always afraid that someone who reads me a lot will find out I don't read them and then they won't read me anymore. But I'm thinking there might be some other readers out there who didn't know I ever looked at their stuff...plus, I think it's amazing how widely...

I Feel Your Pain...Literally
I had to get a filling today. I've been relatively lucky in this respect...my last serious dental work was when I had my one amalgam filling and two "pit" fillings changed from silver amalgam to porcelain. (A pit filling is a tiny filling, about the size of a pinhead.) That was nearly ten years ago....

The Death of Shame
A useful tool for social engineering has been destroyed in the past few decades: Shame. Once a crucial means of conveying the contempt of “civilized people” for societally and morally reprehensible behaviour, shame has been misappropriated and maligned for so long that its only mainstream,...
