Passau

We started our trip on the Danube from a beautiful town at the frontier between Germany and Austria called Passau (prononced P-a(a as in ass)-ss-ou(as in house)). This charming town has not been much affected by bombardments during WWII and we could still see many old buildings that have been left... Sign in to see full entry.

German Parenting

I've got a call from a friend I met here in Germany. We're both from Québec and about the same age and somehow, rather similar in humour and in our view of the world. I start to believe that there is a certain Québécitude after all. Anyway, she has been living in Germany for about 14 years now, so... Sign in to see full entry.

Germany in photos

Before moving the comfuser back home, I decided to up-date my copying of files. Particularly the photos as I have litterally thousands of them. Although, I'm taking it with me on the plane (don't like that very much:too bulky, heavy and I have plenty of other things I'd prefer having with me on the... Sign in to see full entry.

The Movers are here...

The movers are here, right on time, 8 am. I almost wish they had forgotten us. But Germans are usually punctual...and very reliable. Almost too much... There ain't much we can do but look as our stuff is being re-packed by them (they are putting extra-cushuning over everything) and placing it all in... Sign in to see full entry.

Presents for the absents

Well, we're packed! We have just finished packing everything that we can live without for 10 days. So, it's going to be 10 days here without the bikes and the little things that make a house a home, our home. And then, once back in Canada, it's going to be a few weeks more without all that stuff.... Sign in to see full entry.

The Garden of Europe

A friend I met here had told me that for her, Germany is like a big graden: you just have to reach and grabe the fruits; some cherries, or some apples, or all kind of berries. To make her point she showed me some Johannesberries growing on the side of the road close to my house and after a few... Sign in to see full entry.

Rat packing accumulating

The packing seems to be going quite well. We already have packed away most of the stuff from my "office" and most of my clothings. So, now, my comfuser seats on a high table that's too deep but not wide enough and I had to crank up the chair a few notch (a bit as if I was sitting at a bar...). On... Sign in to see full entry.

Quite house and empty-nest

Feeling rather sad and empty today. My brother in law and his "little" family (3 kids) have left to go back home in Australia and the house seems very quite at the moment. A good friend of my Mann and director of the University Institute by whom he was invited, had just told us that his wife (as she... Sign in to see full entry.

Time to go..

Our visitors from Australia are already leaving us today; 17 days go too fast. We barely had time to do a few things with them that it is time for them to go back home. It sometimes makes me dizy when I think about how fast the time is moving, or flying (probably more apropriate a word for it). I... Sign in to see full entry.

Count down to depart...

We are getting ever closer to depart from Germany and are not feeling overly joyful about it. As I mentionned earlier German companies rarely accept credit cards for payment and thus we had to pay most monthly things such as rent and phone by direct bank transfer from our acount to theirs. We... Sign in to see full entry.
