Sometimes, when an animal is sick, there's a little healing thing that can be done that is sometimes dramatically effective. Animals don't put their intellect in the way of it the way we do, trying to get a good look at it, and figure out what's happening, and how, and is it, really? and so on and on... But it has been part of the human healing kit for a long, long time, under various names. Laying on of hands we've just about all heard of... But in the 1800s, Mesmer called the same procedure... I knew someone once who really thought animals were nothing more than animate plush toys. He treated them like objects to play with, and had no thought at all for their liking or disliking his attentions. He was not a pet person. I have no doubt at all that animals have souls. All right, I believe rocks have souls, too, on their own level. But animals have life and the ability to learn beyond their instincts, some of them, and the capacity to comprehend at least as well as some humans the... Sign in to see full entry.
There is a physical reality where we live, where we keep our stuff... It is where time moves along a single line from now back into the past, and forward into the future. And it moves one regular increment at a time. Though we don't always experience it that way subjectively, objectively, it is always that way. The Laws of Physics apply here; space has three dimensions, plus time. It is where we focus our conscious identity and attention, and the point from which we make our choices. It is where... (Continuing the previous topic, and the discussion that it has generated...) There is a basic Rule that applies to this spiritual classroom of ours and that is the Rule of Free Will. It is a spiritual rule, not a physical one. This is a very significant distinction. Free Will is not an unabridgeable right in the physical world: On the levels of society and physical existence, we need curbs on the streets to keep cars flowing where they belong, and not willy-nilly over the countryside, so to... In previous comments, this topic has come up, and I've been considering what a wide range of phenomena this concept includes. The first thing that springs to my mind is The Exorcist, and then, a biblical parable about an unfortunate herd of pigs. There is a certain emotional reaction of fear and wonder whispering backstage when these images take the spotlight. Then, there is channeling, and a certain feeling of disdain and rejection, based on the rather disdainful way my teachers regarded it,... Sign in to see full entry.
A few years ago, there was a popularization of the so-called Hundredth Monkey effect, used as evidence of synergistic, perhaps telepathic learning with suggestions of the existence of community consciousness. I don't argue against those things, but as it happens, I read the particular study that gave rise to the myth back in my old college Anthropology days, and so I'm aware that the story is not what happened. Nor is it, in fact, such great evidence of the psychic connection between monkeys. In... Sign in to see full entry.
Before moving towards other topics, I'd like to make a fairly important point here: Just because someone is not wearing a body, does not mean they are more evolved than those of us who are. It takes a lot of energy, and the ability to manage it, to own and operate a body. Not every bit of conciousness is up to the task. Think back, if necessary, to when you were a restless kid who had the general idea of driving, but could not afford your own car. How did you get around? Public transport? Ask a... Because they are us. To paraphrase Emanuelle: We respect you greatly: Many of us have been human and know full well the courage it takes. Why does anyone become a teacher? Why does someone want to spend their entire lives in school, first as a student, then teaching and hanging out with kids? We all know how cranky and obstreporous and resistant to learning some kids can be... Especially those at the junior high/middle school level, which is about where humanity is, I'm thinkin'... Why does... Sign in to see full entry.
I believe that thoughts originate from all levels within the mind and also, sometimes, from places outside. Mostly, they surface from the area of our personal 'ocean' of mind that is metaphorically like the light-zone that gets dimmer and darker the deeper we go. There are critters in the darkness that sometimes stir the waters or even make an appearance... And there are bubbles from the bottom, rising and expanding quietly, that burst on the surface... "Ask, and the answer will be given..." I... Sign in to see full entry.
They are part of our human experience. Emotions are one of the ways that our unconscious mind communicates with us. They tell us what we are noticing below the level of our up-front awareness, and that is quite a lot. They can clue us in, if we pay attention, about the condition of our energy-flow, in at least a general way: If I'm feeling down, confused, vague... if my get-up-and-go seems to have got up and went... if I'm just not liking myself much... I know, if I remember to think of it, that... Sign in to see full entry.
