This is probably a question asked by vegetarians all over on Thanksgiving Day here in the United States. At our house, growing up, we didn't ever have turkey on Thanksgiving - but not because everyone was vegetarian. My father absolutely hated turkey after having cooked so much of it as an Army mess sergeant. Although I know we didn't have turkey on Thanksgiving - with the exception of the year my mother bought turkey legs for the two of us and fixed Dad a special turkey-free entree - I don't... Entry #173
I deliberately didn't give this entry a fancy title - I couldn't think of one right off the top. I got a call today from our neighbors at the IRS - remember that ad campaign many years ago? - asking us when we were going to file our long-overdue taxes. I didn't give them an answer just yet, preferring instead to talk this matter over with my husband before I did so. I'm leaning toward filing those back taxes later this week or early next week. I hope this is acceptable to them; the IRS is famous... Sign in to see full entry.

Entry #172: How I'm doing today
Today, I feel a bit lethargic or run-down. The funny thing is, this is how I felt just before I was most recently hospitalized for blood transfusions, so as you can imagine, I am concerned. In fact, I hope to call my transplant coordinator later on today to let her know I'm coming in for blood work tomorrow. Again, I emphasize that this is in the hoping stage; after all, I am recovering from minor surgery, so a bit of lethargy is only to be expected at this stage of the game. But I wonder if... Entry #171: Yet another update
Believe it or not, I got back preliminary reports on the colonoscopy already - they handed me these reports as I left the GI procedures area. (By the way, they also took an endoscope to my esophagus and stomach because I've been having difficulty swallowing certain foods lately.) The preliminary reports I just referred to showed a lot of low-level pathology. I don't want to go into nauseating detail, but I can tell you that they removed a polyp from my large intestine while they were in there.... Sign in to see full entry.

Entry #170: Further updates
Garfield mentioned in her blog that I'm going to undergo a big test tomorrow. Said test is a colonoscopy - they're trying to figure out why I become so severely anemic so frequently. One thing they want to rule out is bleeding from the gastrointestinal tract, which is why they ordered the colonoscopy. I just hope things go well tomorrow and that I don't develop complications or anything. That's about it for today. Sign in to see full entry.

Entry #169: Update
We talked to the landlord yesterday about the rent. Garfield has written about the results of this conversation in her blog, The Secret Life of Cats (accessible through my member profile - just click onto the word kidnykid on this blog and you will get there). Speaking of Garfield, she has apparently hit a wall when it comes to writing her book. She is on the last topic she selected to write about - infectious disease in cats and the prevention of same by vaccination - and she is wondering what... Sign in to see full entry.

Entry #168 - another long-delayed entry
I know this entry is a bit delayed - according to the Blogit software, it's been eleven days since last I posted anything in this blog - but I wanted to post an update today. This morning, as I was taking a much-needed break from working with Garfield on her book, I got a knock on the door. It turns out it was one of my landlord's employees with a five-day notice. For those of you that are uninformed as to what a five-day notice is, that means you have five days to pay what you owe, or the... Sign in to see full entry.

Entry #167, long delayed
I've been one busy beaver, helping Garfield research the book version of The Secret Life of Cats. I don't know if I mentioned this, but she is focusing on one feline health issue per day, most days, unless there are complications. One day, however, she focused on human diabetes - she says this is because she hadn't done adequate research at the time about feline diabetes, and I knew a lot about human diabetes. Most readers of this blog are probably aware that the Chicago White Sox won the World... Sign in to see full entry.

Entry #166: Further Updates
I chose not to go in for my CT scan today. The risk is just too great in my opinion; allow me to explain. Due to my history of kidney disease - and the fact that most IV infusions used for CT scans are toxic to the kidneys - I have to have a bolus of IV fluids before the infused CT scan, and an additional bolus of IV fluids afterwards, in order to flush the dye used in the CT scan out of my system once I got done with the scan. I may have explained earlier that the fluids I would be given are... Sign in to see full entry.
