I WISH I was going fishing in Key West with her next week, so I totally made up the story about the tourneyment. She sent me the photo and we talked about some fun things to do... What does time alone do for you?

I just crave it. It's always been a healing, creative time for me. I came across some words in Sue Monk Kidd's book, "The Secret Life of Bees," that express my feelings about this so well- I wanted to share them with you. "If the heat goes over 104 degrees in South Carolina, you have to go to bed.... Sign in to see full entry.

Al Lewis, the cigar chomping character who played Grandpa Munster, passed away this week. He was 95. As a kid, I learned a lot from watching the Munsters. The most important thing is that it doesn't matter what you look like to others, it's what you look like to yourself that counts. I knew The... Sign in to see full entry.

For all you non-superbowl watchers out there... This year's 10 winners of the Bulwer-Lytton contest, aka "Dark and Stormy Night Contest" (run by the English Dept. of San Jose State University), wherein one writes only the first line of a bad novel: 10) "As a scientist, Throckmorton knew that if he... Our backyard hawks are building a nest!

Ever since we moved into our house, we’ve been keeping an eye on our resident 'Mr. Hawk,' a red- tailed hawk. We’ve watched him perch in the trees right outside our windows and we can see him watching us as well. At times, he will even come and sit right on the railing that leads around our deck,... Any Sue Monk Kidd fans out there?

Yesterday, I finished re-reading her book, “The Mermaid Chair.’ I absolutely love her writing—it is stunningly visual, emotionally engaging and very personal. As I neared the end of the book, my head and heart were wrapped up in the complex tapestry of emotions. I had that heavy feeling behind my... Sign in to see full entry.

Have you been called a free spirit?

Did you take it as a compliment? I imagine that there are a lot of free spirits here on blogit. I've been called that more times than I can count. At first, I was suspicious that it really wasn't meant as a compliment. I heard shades of 'irresponsible, flakey, unreliable, air-headed'. Of course,... Sign in to see full entry.
