We just stumble along with our griefs and cares and don't have a clue. And then one day we see that, compared to some people, we've been pretty lucky. We realize all the stupid things we worried about never happened, it was something totally unexpected that came up and whapped us in the back of the... Sign in to see full entry.

Bored? Looking for something just a bit different?
Have I got a book for you! It's War Dances, a collection of short stories by Sherman Alexie, winner of the National Book Award. Now, before I go further, you should know when it comes to "The Sherm" I am a fan. I love what he's written, from his first major book -- The Lone Ranger and Tonto... Sign in to see full entry.

Writing group, schmighting group!
Now, I'm not saying my little "Circus" story is untouchable, that it doesn't need some work. Every time I read over my little story I change something. But at the Write Place meeting last night, I had what can only be called a comeuppance... A., the retired English teacher, got stuck first paragraph... Sign in to see full entry.

Who -- That
My Journalism 201 instructor, Ms. Nora Baker, was also a working editor at a big newspaper. She had a thing about words that sound the same but have different meanings. For instance, the word "sight." Which has to do with seeing. It sounds like "cite" -- a whole 'nother thing. Cite is a root thingie... Sign in to see full entry.

Follow the money -- (it won't take long)
I dunno if that's great advice these days, considering the downturn, the crash, the economy stupid! But wait! Is that a light at the end of a long dark tunnel? Did my newest report from 401K Central show a slight increase? Has the dollar bleed finally stopped? Money has never been the bottom line... Sign in to see full entry.

The biggest gamble...
Jean and I were having our usual chat during my shift at the library yesterday. We got on the subject of her neighbor, Allen. She said he seems to be losing it and acting a bit irrational. Doesn't want to turn on the heat, Jean said. She assumed he had to be cold and took him a spare comforter. He... Sign in to see full entry.

The last market day...
Saturday was the last full bore Goshen Market for this year. There'll be a small one next week, but half the farmers and bakers and basket makers will be gone. And if it snows, I sure won't be there. It's early for snow, but the temperature here in Mundane has been 10 degrees or so below average... Sign in to see full entry.

Book Review: 20 Master Plots and how to build them
Two reasons I'm reading this book. A. for the information, and 2. to avoid fiddling around with my NaNoWriMo project. It's like training for the marathon, but not actually running the course until the opening gun. Ronald B. Tobias came out with this book in 1993. It's published by Writer's Digest... Maybe it's the rain
but I'm beginning to feel an overwhelming sense of negativity. They crashed a rocket into the moon, took and transmitted photos of the splash just before the photo module crashed right behind it. If we look with a powerful 'scope we'll see the new crater we made, and maybe figure out scientifically... Sign in to see full entry.

Oops!
Totally forgot the Library board meeting last night. Bad Pat! Especially since I'm the one who takes minutes. No reason I couldn't go. But I'd emailed last month's minutes on Tuesday, put the folder along with my new steno notebook into my file instead of leaving it on the desk to remind me. No... Sign in to see full entry.
