Yesterday, when I said that I’d been canning tomatoes, Mademoiselle pointed out that the term should be “jarring.” I’ll bet that most people don’t know that the “can” was invented more than fifty years before the can-opener was invented. Instructions that came with the canned goods, said to use a chisel to open them up. What did you think?
