An example of perpetutating a superstition?

There's an animal shelter in Idaho that isn't doing black cat adoptions until after November 2nd. They're not the only ones doing this. Their rationale is that they're trying to prevent pranks from occurring to those cats-- "or worse, mistreated in some satanic ritual." (according to the article I read).
