This has been one of those days. First, there was the severe gas pain causing chest discomfort. I burped up the gas and relieved the chest pain, then my husband tells me he isn't sure what time he'll be home. Vibes, thoughts and prayers would be helpful. Thanks. Sign in to see full entry.

Entry #145: Habitat Update
I did get a preliminary application - actually, a sort of screening form - from our local Habitat for Humanity affiliate. This form came as the result of a phone call placed last week to the executive director (also known as the vice president) of said HFH affiliate. One of the requirements is that you have an income within a certain range. You have to make a minimum income - a relatively low minimum income at that - and the maximum you are allowed to make varies with household size. Quite... Sign in to see full entry.
Entry #144: Further results and other matters (long post)
As Garfield stated in her blog, I went to the doctor yesterday. I see my doctor at a special clinic set up at a local university medical center just for kidney transplant recipients (I've had a transplant for 26 years), because it's frankly easier to get an appointment with her through this clinic than it is to see my doctor at her regular clinic. At first, the renal fellow (that's a special level of training where you train to be a specialist; you can be a fellow in training and be a woman at... Sign in to see full entry.

Entry #143: Results
My letter-writing campaign has paid off. I have received a response from Habitat for Humanity, and I got in touch with no less a personage than the executive director of my local HFH affiliate. She will mail off an application for me, and I should see it in about a week. It turns out that this executive director has had some problems of her own. Her husband has been sick - he needs whatever prayers, healing vibes or good thoughts you can offer him. This is perhaps why I have not received a fast... Sign in to see full entry.

Entry #142
I've written letters to Habitat for Humanity, in the hope that my pestiness will pay off in more rapid service. Since the letters will not be sent out until Monday, they won't get there until later in the week, which means I won't have results until then. That's better than waiting on the bureaucracy to grind slowly, and it's actually more rapid if you think about it. I can send this stuff either Priority Mail or overnight delivery (like FedEx or Express Mail) so it will get to the various... Sign in to see full entry.

Entry #141
This entry is an update of sorts to my last entry. I am writing letters to Habitat for Humanity's international headquarters, as well as my local affiliate and the Midwest regional headquarters, stating my needs in as clear a fashion as possible, in the hope that I might receive a more rapid response to my requests for help. Frankly, I find myself getting stymied by bureaucracy and red tape, and this is an emergency situation. As I said in my last post, I am sick and tired of living in... Sign in to see full entry.
Entry #140
One of the things I didn't mention yesterday was that I plan on applying to Habitat for Humanity for an affordable house. The problem I'm having is that I'm having trouble reaching a real live person. I keep hitting voice mail at the local Habitat affiliate, and the email listed for our local affiliate is an invalid email. I've tried callng the national headquarters, and they tell me to be patient - to wait a few days. I can't wait a few days - my housing situation is such that I can't afford to... Entry #139
I've been asked to provide more information as to just why I'm in the situation I'm in. I'm glad to comply with this request, as I have indeed been rather vague about my difficulties. I've already mentioned that I'm behind in my rent and utilities. Right now, it's often a choice between medication and food; in fact, tonight, we're going to a local food pantry catering to the working poor. (We find that we're ineligible for food stamps, meaning that we have to go to those food pantries which... Sign in to see full entry.

Thanks again to everyone for clicking. I am currently investigating ways of getting free medications on insurance. I don't want to go without needed medication, and the copayments are just killing us right now. Thankfully, people are responding to the need, but whether or not I like the answers remains to be seen. Thanks again for clicking. Sign in to see full entry.

Entry #137
I would like to take the time to thank everyone for clicking onto this blog. But I think you can see the "however" coming. I need a lot of help, and I need it "no questions asked" and relatively quickly. I have already discussed the fact that I am behind on my rent and utilities. I am also behind on my medical bills - and I've been hospitalized three times in the past year, which means there are a lot of medical bills hanging around. This discourages me, quite frankly. I am overwhelmed by the... Sign in to see full entry.
