God intentions...

Had a busy weekend with the family over since it was Al's birthday (I made him a cake - this is a first!) Granddaughter was angelic (which made a pleasant change) and we all enjoyed meeting up. I had every intention of blogging yesterday, but felt somewhat low and couldn't raise the energy. The day... Sign in to see full entry.

A great day out

We had friends from the rectory area over for the day. "Have you been to Strumpshaw Fen?" they asked. "No, where's that?" "Just round the corner from you. It's an RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds) reserve. We'll take you." So we went there for the day, and it was terrific. We took a... Sign in to see full entry.

A good day

A good day today in which Ed and I went to church and enjoyed it. Beginning to get to know people and feel quite comfortable in our new church. We came home after church and read the Sunday paper, always something I look forward to. Not because the peper is particularly good (there are loads of... Sign in to see full entry.

Nigel the curate

Had a couple of phone calls from Nigel the curate. They're the first contact I've had with him since I retired, and they flung me right back into working mode. The first was asking me to remind him which parishioners had shown interest in confirmation (which is a Church of England event where people... Sign in to see full entry.

We're home!

Thank you all for your good wishes and kind comments. We had a great holiday in Wales with good weather until the day we were due to play golf with my cousin, when the heavens opened. Since my cousin and I are definitely fair-weather golfers, we had lunch out in a delightful craft gallery-cum-tea... Sign in to see full entry.

Tomorrow we're off!

The best thing about retirement seems to be that you can do hat you want when you want - more or less. So tomorrow Ed and I will up sticks and head down to Portsmouth to visit relatives and the latest member of the family, just five months old. Then it's up into South Wales for a weekend of... Feeding the troops

Ed and I have suddenly started getting much more social with this retirement lark and have had several visitors for meals. On Friday we had the Lay Chairman of our deanery down at rocking rectory, who also happens to play golf with Ed. Being a bloke we thought he'd need feeding well so opted for... Convoluted, but problem solved

I think so, anyway. In order to reopen my original bank account with Paypal, I had to fax the two digit number they sent to the account when I first opened it, around ten years ago! Clearly beyond the scope of human ability. So I opened a new Paypal account, which is remarkably easy with (it seems)... Sign in to see full entry.

Paypal

Has anyone had problems with Paypal lately? I had an email from them around three or four weeks ago, saying that due to an 'internal error' my bank had denied a Paypal payment, whereupon Paypal had pulled the bank account. When I went onto the site, I found I couldn't reinstate the bank account... Sign in to see full entry.

A new friend

I think I might have made a new friend. I recently met the vicar of the neighbouring parish and was delighted to see that she's in my age bracket. But even better, it turns out that she's a golfer. She hasn't played for a couple of years, but we linked up yesterday morning for a round (actually only... Sign in to see full entry.
