Tiger Prawns in Yogurt

Here is a recipe I made for Sunday lunch, which was requested by a blogger, and something prawn lovers may enjoy trying. It is aromatic and very tasty. Tiger Prawns in Yogurt* Ingredients 250 gms small tiger prawns 2 medium size potatoes (cut into 1/8 inch thick rounds) 2 medium sized onions (thinly... Sign in to see full entry.

The Heat and Fish for Lunch

In the last few days the temperature in Delhi has been about 44 degrees. It's hot. I grew up in the east coast of India, which is costal and humid. In the summer months, even before the rain hit, the air was thick with humidity. Being asthmatic, I could barely breathe. And, when there was no... Sign in to see full entry.

Flirting with Fuchsias

I first got to know about fuchsias from my brother-in-law (see previous post The Hills are Alive). About two years ago, he got interested in fuchsias and started buying and propagating them. Encouraged by the local horticulturist, Mr. Tyagi, the family house in the hills soon had an impressive... Sign in to see full entry.

In-between

I am in-between. In-between boxes, books, files, notebooks, kitchenware, artifacts. They are coming out of boxes and taking up tables, beds, couches - any space that stuff can be put on. They are being sorted, dusted, discarded and put away. So much stuff. Sometimes, I despair. Why do I gather all... Sign in to see full entry.

Love of Orchids

I did this watercolor in the hills. It's the first orchid that my sister has grown. I first met orchids in Thailand in the early 1980s. I was amazed by their beauty and how they grew out of everything and everywhere. The Thais grow them in pots, thee orchids spurt out of trees, and are sold in and... Sign in to see full entry.

The Hills are Alive

I just returned from a six day trip to the hills. Ten years ago my sister and brother in law bought a plot of land in the foothills of the Himalayas. It took them five years to build a home, a beautiful home. It took that long as labour is hard to get in the mountains, material difficult to... Sign in to see full entry.

Space, Nostalgia and Clarity

Clearing out the old four drawer black metal filing cabinet two days go, I decided to let everything (well, almost) go. Here is my medical file which selectively goes back to 1986, the year I moved to Italy and began to see an American GP working in Rome. In between this are eye prescriptions,... Moving and Visiting

Over the weekend we moved our office-home into our home. On Thursday, the phone and the Internet connections in the office-home were turned off. No Internet meant we had to have something else to do. I thought I clear up, and made a pile of the important and urgent files I needed to have with me... Sign in to see full entry.

Window Dressing and a Quality of Life

I love venetian blinds. They bring a certain lucidity to views and light I appreciate enormously. I like the way they sit in front of the glass. When they are fully open, I can see the view as far as my eyes will permit it. If I want privacy, I tilt them up and still get a view of the outside world.... Sign in to see full entry.
