The Red Silk Cotton Tree

These days, there is a very beautiful tree in bloom. It is called the Red Silk Cotton tree, and also known by the names semul, simul, simal, or Indian kapok. The tree is about 30-40 metres tall and its trunk is about 3 m in diameter. The flowers are in bloom between January and March. When the... Sign in to see full entry.

Celebrating International Women's Day

March 8 is International Women's Day (IWD). I have celebrated IWD in the US, India, Italy, Afghanistan, and Brazil. The celebration (as it truly is) has taken various forms - meetings, conferences, lectures, films, get togethers, demonstrations, etc. Yesterday, after reading all the IWD articles,... An enchanting Evening

Two days ago, we had a very enchanting evening. We were invited to a reception to celebrate the wedding of Kachina, our friends Janet and Kanwarjeet's daughter. It was in the park across the street from their house. The invitation, on hand made paper, was in blue, burgandy and white, with stylish... Sign in to see full entry.

Feeding Aloe

I grew up with dogs. My father loved them and had a passion for Alsatians. Saturday Delights

Yesterday, after an early morning hour long walk with Mahesh and Aloe, I had a good deal of energy. After several cups of tea and a breakfast of toast, papaya and pomegranates, I went into the kitchen. It was my day to make salsa, something I had planned for several days. I had down loaded a recipe... Sign in to see full entry.

Mixed Feelings

Yesterday, we got news that my son Kabir has been accepted at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, USA. It is my alma mater mater, and I graduated from there in the early 70s. For the first few hours I was very excited. I was too busy to get in touch with my other feelings as Stina was coming over to... Sign in to see full entry.

A Day Off

Yesterday, being Tuesday, and the second last day of February, I decided to take the day off. I was not in a good mood. My pending projects that clamoured to be completed are so uninspiring that I decided to beg off them. And, do the things I had been putting off (besides work). That is, being with... Losing out on Eden

Losing out on Eden In the blue coth covered notebook I have another entry I'd like to share with fellow bloggers. "We close ourselves off from Eden in order to live the common sense life and find ways of escaping from that when it gets too mundane.... We fear ecstasy because it is too demanding,...
