Christian made it

I'm delighted to tell you that Christian got through his entrance exam OK and now plans to join the Grammar School in September. He is delighted that they're going to take him, as are we. We both feelt hat he will get a first class education and be introduced and coached in all kinds of new sports,... Sign in to see full entry.

On the line

Because of Susan and Claire being away on their little break I’ve been working from home for the last couple of days. I can do pretty well most things from here on the PC, over the web and via the ‘phone. I don’t take this for granted either. I’ve worked at the same company for over 17 years and am... Safe return

I'm pleased to be able to say that Susan and Claire returned home today. They made good time from Hathrow to King's Cross and I picked them up just after midday. It was strange waiting for them at the station - the train was a few minutes late! - I felt hopeful and happy yet nervous and a little... Sign in to see full entry.

Trial and tribulation

I'm sorry I haven't posted for a while. With Susan and Claire in New York I've been trying to spend as much time with Christian as possible, especially as he had his High School entrance exam yesterday. It seems that he got on OK, although we'll know by the end of the week whether he has a place or... Sign in to see full entry.

Looking forward

I was tucking Christian up in bed last night which is always one of the day's greatest privileges. H always gives me a kiss and tells me that he loves me - in fact he continues to bid me a good night's sleep as I retreat slowly down the corridor. This reminds me of when my mother (and sometimes... All was well until 3.36

Had a good weekend until 3.36pm yesterday when it got very very bad. We'd been cleaning the house - a task we all hate - and the children, Susan and I had made a concerted attempt to get it done as quickly as possible. On the final straight, I popped down into the local village to tune in a new... Sign in to see full entry.

Goals galore

Christian played his soccer match this afternoon. Because he was man of the match last week he was captain of the team today. We went into Tesco to pick up a couple of things earlier and then had a pre-match snack of chocolate croissants and coffee. Obviously, he should be eating lasagne and some... Today's been better

With the moon 99% of full today I was expecting it not to be great. My well-being seems to have waned as the moon has waxed. I'm tracking my behavious pattern with that of the moon's cycle this year and it will be interesting to see if there is a real correlation or not when we have some decent... Do I want to be alone?

I’ve just returned from a walk across Green Park. I often get out of the office to get some fresh air and have break from the screens; I know I would otherwise be tempted to write here or just continue with the endless tide of jobs. I go over to Prets on Piccadilly for a sandwich and then usually... Sign in to see full entry.

Last night I dreamt I went to Manderley again

Yes, I'm sure most of you will know the opening line to this classic novel. Some of you may remember it from the wondrous film dramatisation where the colourful characters made a mockery of their black and white stage. I selected a passage from this book last night – the scene after her first grand... Sign in to see full entry.
