Have you ever felt yourself without any particular skill at all? I know we all share a love of and (judging by the quality of many posts here) real expertise at writing, but do you ever find yourselves in situations where you think: everyone knows much more than I do. I'm just playing at knowing;... Sign in to see full entry.

Contact lenses
Susan took Christian to the optician this morning to try out some contact lenses. Christian and I both wear glasses and, like me, he has worn them since he was quite young and doesn't have any kind of problem or issue with them. However, unlike me, he felt that he wanted to try out contact lenses,... Sign in to see full entry.

Ivan and me
We had a good journey back to Ivan's school today. The journey was spent in listening to The Kaiser Chiefs, ColdPlay and The Darkness, all at a larger volume than Susan normally tolerates in the house. We chatted about school and all of the challenges ahead which was very positive. In the past, Ivan... Sign in to see full entry.

Sharing new things
I posted a few days ago that Ivan had been clearing out a large amount of childhood toys and so forth. Last night we both watched a VH2 programme of key songs from 2005. One of our current favorites - Kaiser Chiefs' 'I predict a riot' was number one but there was plenty of ColdPlay in there too,... Sign in to see full entry.

Hi school
Christian and Claire returned to Primary School today. They were both ready for it I think. Christian told me last night that he'd been ready for about a week as he missed his friends. I think he also missed having his mind stretched. There's no doubt that he was ready for a break and a good rest... Sign in to see full entry.

Getting warmer
It’s been much milder here over the last couple of days but still pretty cold at around 6.00 in the mornings when I leave the house. My morning ritual, after attempting to kill the owner of the piercing scream that is my alarm clock, is to be woken up again by my mobile ‘phone alarm at 5.30. I have... Sign in to see full entry.

We had a nice evening
last night, with all of us aware that I would be back at work today and thus the special family holiday about to break up. The boys and I gloried in Leeds United beating Pylmouth 3.0 and enjoyed every minute of it on Sky. I then played chess with Christian who, though he understands the individual... You can learn so much
just by talking with each other. We had a candelight dinner last night, just the children and Susan and I, and a fire blazing in the great. A typical roast beef dinner celebrated the New Year, accompanied by rather large amounts of red wine. We chatted and laughed and remembered funny moments in the... Sign in to see full entry.

Oh yes we celebrated
Having spent an evening playing games with Christian and Claire, Susan and Ivan arrived home at last from London, leaving transport chaos and New Year's recriminations behind them. None of us had any particular plan on how we should spend the evening, nor whether or not we should see the new year... Sign in to see full entry.
