Keeping a Positive Mental Attitude When Life Is Hellish
A comment on my recent post to Editormum's Answers: "Pure drivel. Tell this to a homeless person, someone maimed in a meaningless war, someone born crippled." The quote that I posted, from Martha Washington, basically states that it is one's outlook, not one's circumstances, that dictate one's...

A Personal Catharsis
I've decided that there is too much stress in my life, so I have decided that I am going to start trimming. I'm starting with my blogging habits. I will conquer my competitive streak and ignore the ratings on BN, for starters. I will stop trying to post to all of my blogs every day, and will focus...

Graduation Day at Last! ... and some thoughts on shots
I went to my allergist's office today for my semi-annual evaluation. I've been seeing him for four years now, since April 1999. And I've been having immunotherapy (allergy shots) since then. Once a week for the first year, then alternate weeks, then every third week, and then once a month. Plus...

Do the Clothes Make the Person?
Once again, DREAH has sparked a post. Her "Dress Code" topic reminded me of an experiment that I did when I was searching for a new home church after my divorce. I was raised in a culture in which you dressed up for church. There were very strict rules about was, and what was not, appropriate dress...

The Media Are Rabble-Rousers...Making Waves While the City Tries to Recover
In the aftermath of the violent windstorm that paralyzed our city, we're beginning to see substantial progress toward recovery. True, there are still a few thousand people without power; there are still lines down in some yards and streets (mostly cable lines now, as in my yard); there are many...

Electric Avenue....
Just went by the house at lunch, and we have power again. Please God, it will stay on this time. I want to thank MollyB, who alerted me to the possibility of receiving donations through my blogs. What a great idea. I like the idea that I can "tip" someone whom I think wrote a really good piece,...

PSYCH !!!!
Power's out again. Isn't that loverly! I had electricity for a whole 21 hours. And this time it blew the whole substation out, so the neighborhood is dark all over the place. Don't know when they will get it back up...don't really care. I moved in with Mom. She's had power for almost a week now....

I'm Baaaaaa-ack!
Finally got power, late yesterday afternoon! A total of 12 1/2 days sans electricity. Whew. I'm glad it's over. I lost a good bit of food, and that brings me to what I want to hit on today. Our state food stamp program issued a month's food stamps to local recipients to make up for their food loss...

Day 11...
Okay, this is getting to be a strain. It's starting to cause problems at work because I'm so tired. There are still about 58,000 customers without power. I hope they get it on for us tomorrow. If they don't, I'm going to have to move to my Grandma's or something. I can't afford for this to be...

Day 10....and counting
Still no power. Thank God for the light rain that falls every night now. If it were not for that, it would be impossible to sleep. And the fact that it is only at night, pretty much, means that it doesn't interfere unduly with the utility company's attempts to restore power. It's interesting to see...
