PB&J and hot chocolate

I kid you not - I read about this combination on the Archdiocese of Chicago website. Apparently, Cardinal George wants to eat those foods as soon as he can. He is already on Loyola's general diet. Unfortunately, I don't think they offer patients peanut butter and jelly sandwiches washed down with hot chocolate. I have to admit I got a big kick out of this combination of foods when I first heard that Cardinal George wanted it. I was reminded of my own personal yogurt mix - the recipe for that is... Terminal brain fry

That's the state I'm in right now. Last night was a virtually sleepless one due to the weather-related power failure we experienced. This morning, the intake worker from the low-cost adult clinic near where we live left a message for my daughter. My daughter needs good, basic primary care desperately, yet cannot afford private-practice doctors because she is unemployed and completely uninsured (without even Medicaid to rely on). The poor puppy

Garfield wanted me to write about this. She is very upset about this incident I'm about to describe, and I can't blame her. We just heard on CLTV that a man has been arrested and charged with animal cruelty. Apparently, this so-and-so (I can't print what I actually call him here on Blogit) left his dog in his car yesterday, when we were still in the grip of a nasty heat wave reminiscent of the one in 1995. Fallout

Just now, CLTV ran a story which stated that Target Stores is cancelling plans to be part of a strip mall on Chicago's south side. They are considering pulling out of Chicago entirely. This is a direct result of the City Council's passage of the "big box" ordinance, mandating that stores greater than a specified size (Target Stores are generally bigger than the legally-specified size) must pay a minimum of US$10/hour in actual wages effective a few years from now, and an additional US$3/hour in...
