The other day, I read a story on AOL which gave all the crazy reasons for why people call 911. Apparently, people really do call 911 because someone gave them the wrong order at the drive-up window. And then, there's the man who claimed that he saw two bodies - it turns out he was hallucinating or something, because soon, he started ranting and raving about vampires with fangs and so forth. Or how about the blithering idiots who forgot where they parked their calls at the local mall? Is that a... Sign in to see full entry.
Oh, no! They're coming to get me! NOT.
As I was writing the last entry, I had a very interesting visit from some local officials. I need to do some explaining first, so you understand the purpose of their visit. A few days ago, I wrote to the local Township Supervisor. One of the issues I alluded to in my letter was the chronic parking problems we've been having, particularly late at night and on weekends. People seemingly park every which way but loose in the lot lately. It's not unusual, especially on weekends and late at night,... Sign in to see full entry.
You mean to tell me normal isn't healthy?
Just a few moments ago, I was looking at a book I haven't gotten rid of yet, entitled Why Normal Isn't Healthy. That got me to reminiscing about my days in 12-step programs. I know I've already discussed - probably in here - the notion, once widely held among authors of recovery-oriented material, that 97% of all American families are dysfunctional. That is what I was reminded of when I saw the title Why Normal Isn't Healthy: the idea that most of us are from dysfunctional families, in desperate... Sign in to see full entry.
Time to breathe a sigh of relief
Fortunately, the storm system that Garfield implicitly talked about in The Secret Life of Cats passed us by, with the exception of a couple of thunderclaps and lots of rain. I don't mind the rain; abundant rain at the right time helps to make those late-summer tomatoes ripe and juicy. (Please pass the salt; I'm hungry just thinking about tomatoes.) But I'm grateful the power didn't go out. I saw some of the radar, and the Chicago area (particularly the southern suburbs) got hit with some nasty... Sign in to see full entry.
Klingons with suitcases
Those of you who have been following the news this morning - in fact, just since my last post at that ungodly hour today - know that British authorities arrested 21 people suspected of developing a plot to take over some airplanes and destroy them. The airplanes they planned on destroying were all supposed to be bound for America. (Trust me - you don't want to be anywhere near either Heathrow or Gatwick in Britain right now.) What these suspected terrorists planned on doing was smuggling aboard... Sign in to see full entry.
The Antichrist has struck again!
Now, normally, I don't like to write about my earnings here on Blogit - many people consider this a private matter, and I respect their opinions. However, today's different. It's very early in the morning here in Chicagoland; I can't sleep because the smoke detector keeps malfunctioning. (I'm going to have to talk to the landlord about that.) Well, my husband got on the computer and accessed Blogit for me. We discovered that my earnings so far this month are - get this - $6.66. Yes, you read... Sign in to see full entry.
