A slowdown in home appreciation slows down spending

I have read that in couple of articles lately. The housing boom stopped and spending has slowed down because of it. What is the link between the two? My house has probably appreciated a bit but it hasn't changed my spending habits. If the value of my house went down, it wouldn't change my spending... Sign in to see full entry.

It's your patriotic duty as an American to blow your money

Let me post a comment I received in response to yesterday's post at a different site from a blogger names CV Rick: Jumping off a financial cliff might not be the actions of following one's friends, but instead following one's local or national leaders. What I mean is that the attitude of consumption... Sign in to see full entry.

Crossing "the line"

I have mentioned it before but I thought I would talk a little bit more about the line. The line I'm talking about is the line between paying interest and earning interest. Obviously the goal of this plan is to get us to the point where we are earning interest... exclusively. Like most lines, there... Sign in to see full entry.

What's in your wallet?

MY money! Muahahahahahahahaa! I don't give credit card companies a single dime and haven't for a long time. The last time I did was a couple years ago when I signed up for one of those cards that has 0% interest for 6 months that you can transfer other accounts to. I transferred my other accounts to... This week I have noticed another good thing about the plan

Two things have combined here that I have really noticed this week. The first thing factor is that my wife and I have paid off most of our bills. The second factor is that my wife registered us on some kind of list that keeps people from sending us credit card applications. Until this week, I never... Sign in to see full entry.

My money plan for the holidays is similar to my weight loss plan

It's working but I'm not too concerned about the progress. My wife and I talked about it and just like I said in my Be Fit blog, it's more like damage control. We might not move ahead but we won't go backwards either. And most likely, we'll move ahead at least a little. Last year, I was listening to... Sign in to see full entry.

An improptu finance meeting

My wife and I decided to suspend our weekly finance meetings for November and December and just kind of go with the flow. We've been following the plan long enough that "going with the flow" doesn't pose much of a threat to our plan. We just want to enjoy the holidays and not stress much about the... Christmas isn't about presents for us

Luckily, it never has been. My wife and I just aren't into the whole gift thing that much. It's nice to do and we enjoy it. I know that as our son gets older, we'll probably do more for him but maybe not. It seems that a lot of Christmas presents are given for the sole purpose of giving presents.... I read an article on holiday spending yesterday

Five Ways To Avoid Holiday Overspending #1 on the list was about credit cards. Suze Orman said that if you were going to use a credit card and you weren't going to pay it off immediately, double the price of what you are buying to see if you can afford it. If you can't afford to pay twice the... Sign in to see full entry.

The beauty of money

My wife and I talk about this often because of the path that we are on. Once we have money working for us exclusively, once we have stepped across that line, we are going to help those around us. We have family and friends that could use help or just our thanks. There are charities that we would... Sign in to see full entry.
